Termination of Employment
The employee’s and employer’s terms of notice should be included in your employment contract. So if you are thinking of handing in your notice you should always consult your contract in the first instance.
As a general rule, a salaried employee, must provide one months' notice if he/she wishes to terminate employment.
However, the employer should provide the following amount of notice if he/she wishes to terminate your employment:
• If you’ve been employed by the company for up to six months – one months' notice should be given
• If you’ve been employed by the company for 6 months – 3years employment – 3 months' notice should be given
• If you’ve been employed for more than 3 years – At least 4 months' notice should be given. This may be extended by one month for every three years of employment up to a maximum of six months.
